Hygiene at work
Have you ever had someone at your job that
has an oder problem?
Ok so there is this guy at my work that works about 100 miles away from me except on fridays. On fridays he has to come here to the main office. He has been working with us for about 6 months now.
Don't get me wrong, I think he is a good guy, lots of knowledge in his field, pretty bright fellow, But he has the Mathew McConaughey thing going on with the no deoderant and some bad body oder. With a guy this nice its hard to tell the guy that he stinks. I mean he has the kind of smell that lingers around 5 to 10 minutes after he leaves.
We have been talking about it in our office to see who was going to be the one to break the news to him here at work. Nobody wanted to be that person that brings up that conversation to him. Not even the owners felt comfortable talking to him about his oder problem. What if its genetic? What if he does use deoderant and he litterly cant help the way he smells.
How do you start a conversation like that? Think about it. Thats not an easy conversation to have with somebody at work. We dont have a "Human Resourse" program at my work. So I decided to be the one to talk to him. I joined him on a smoke outside. I didn't plan it out very well.
I asked him to not be offended by this question that I am about to ask him. Of course he is like "Sure" with a big smile. Ugh. I ask him "Do you not use Deoderant?".... The look on his face, it was just a fraction of time that he carried that look, but I cant forget it. He had the look like he had never been asked that question before, like he was in disbelieve that I just asked him that. I felt like an ass at that point in time. Seriously, He is like 36 years old, could it be possible that nobody has ever brought up the odor question to him before?
His answer to my question "yeah". Man I could see a thousand questions and thoughts running through his head. I felt terrible thinking that its probably genetic and he cant help it. He asked me, "Do I stink or something" I told him that he had a little extra funk than most people have, That why I asked him that. Of course I did the buddy buddy thing, I told that I would expect the same from him, Like if I had a crusty snot in my nose showing, I would hope that he would tell me.
Whew. Thats over, I only wonder if this will stick in his head and will be more aware of the funk.
- hey gino i used to drive trucks and when you leave out fresh and your team drivers bo is already bad all you can do is ask him to go shower or leave him and run single . because he is gonna lay in the sleeper where i was gonna have to sleep next ha ha it aint happinin . if i stink tell me i will thank you and go wash . in your case you could have just given him a present a bar of soap and deoderant wrapped in a towel lol .i would.
- I've heard most people can't smell their BO so maybe he can't smell it. I know some people who have had serious BO and seemed oblivious to it so who knows?
- He comes in fresh early on Fridays and he has that odor already. He hasn't even sweated a lick yet. He could work all day, which has has, in the office on Friday with cold AC and still has that odor problem. There is some really powerful medication that they sell at the store. Would it be cold blooded for me to purchase this and give it to him? I Truly believe that he lost his sense of smell or is completely immune to his odor problem.
- You have to tell those kind of people that they stink bad, they work in a office of other people and its just rank to let them sit in a funk all day near you. like ya said, Ya did the buddy thing and i would want you to tell me if i stank like crap.
- Dude , that wes kinda harsh . yep stink is stink but I would have got him while every one was telling joks or funny stories and when he raised his arm said something like "your rite guard aint working under the left arm" I realy dont know what field of work he dose but if he is in construction or something like that i think just cut him some slack , when you work hard you dont have time to stay KOTEX fresh like the girly boys in the office A/C . Maby he just sweats the anti-persperant off while he WORKS. just my point of view , you can buy him a stick of nice deoderant to keep in his truck . the company that I work for has a case of deoderant in the supply closet and we are welcome to get one to take with us so we dont stink if we have to deal with job site meatings or this kind of thing . Just think what would mama do in this situation and all will be good . PEASE OUT DUDE
